Casinos take age verification extremely seriously. An independent test purchasing programme has operated since 2014 to test operators’ procedures for preventing underage gambling and that they are enforcing the ‘Challenge 21/25’ programme.
In 2017, 133 casinos across the country were assessed by independent testers, aged 18-20, with no ID. All casino operators were included in the assessment and in 96% of cases the testers were challenged and refused entry, with a further 1% being challenged on the casino floor and asked to leave. Only 3% of testers were not challenged for ID and these four venues were placed into remedial action and subsequently re-visited; all of them successfully challenged for ID on the second visit.
